Special Screening: PLEASE CALL HOME (Guest: Kirk West & Friends)
PLEASE CALL HOME (2008)

Director
: Kirk West (Q&A with special guests following screening)
Screening Times:  5:45pm - 8:30pm
Synopsis: This is a story about home – a story about family and brotherhood. Between 1970 and 1972 a band of brothers used this Southern home as their base of operations; this home was called the Big House. The Big House became a refuge, a safe place that nurtured the creativity of a community. As the characters within the Big House shared the darkness and light that is life, a mystical bond was established. In the midst of a magical era of musical, cultural and political change, the Big House became a sanctuary, a greenhouse, in which a unique strain of music grew. For just a little while it’s time to leave the chaos of the world around us, to remember the music that ignored barriers, to recapture the good energy and to celebrate brotherhood. It’s time to remember those years’ it’s time to go home to the place the Allman Brothers Band called the Big House.

Special Guest Bio: Kirk West is first and foremost a music lover. He has never been able to get enough of the people, places, and things that comprise the life of a touring artist. In search of the richness that musicians and their music bring the world, his travels and life have taken him from his Iowa birthplace to far flung reaches of the globe, camera in hand.

Beginning in 1989, Kirk served as Tour Manager for the Allman Brothers Band for over 20 years. During his tenure, Kirk shot 10 Allman Brothers Band LP, CD or DVD covers, as well as over 15 picture sleeves for the group’s records. A renowned archivist, West also directed the critically-acclaimed Please Call Home documentary, which covered the early years of the Allman Brothers Band while living at the Big House in Macon, Georgia.
